Bihar Board Exam Shifts 2026 – Detailed Overview

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) conducts both Class 10 (Matric) and Class 12 (Inter) examinations in two separate shifts each day to accommodate the large number of students across the state. These shift timings are designed to ensure smooth conduct of exams and proper management at every examination centre.

First Shift (Morning Shift): 9:30 AM – 12:45 PM

The morning session begins at 9:30 AM. Students are advised to reach their examination centres at least 30–45 minutes early. This shift includes:

  • 15 minutes of cool-off time to read the question paper
  • A 3-hour writing duration
  • Strict invigilation and verification before the exam starts

The morning shift is preferred by many students as the environment is calmer, and the brain is naturally more active in the early hours.

Second Shift (Afternoon Shift): 2:00 PM – 5:15 PM

The afternoon session starts at 2:00 PM, giving students enough time to refresh, revise, and mentally prepare after the first half of the day. This shift includes:

  • 15 minutes of reading time before writing begins
  • The same 3-hour duration as the morning shift
  • Extra attention to hydration and rest due to warmer temperatures

Students appearing in the second shift should plan their meals and travel to avoid delays or fatigue.

Notes for Students

  • Reach at least 30 minutes early to avoid last-minute rush.
  • Carry your admit card, pen, and necessary stationery.
  • Follow all rules and listen to the instructions given by invigilators.
  • Make use of the cool-off time to read the paper thoroughly and plan your answers.
How BSEB Conducts Exams – Complete Process Explained
  • Objective-Type Questions on OMR Sheets:
For subjects that include objective questions, students are required to mark their answers on OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets using black ink to ensure clear scanning.
  • Computerized Evaluation:
The OMR sheets are scanned and checked through an advanced computerized system, which helps maintain high accuracy and eliminates the possibility of human checking errors.
  • Strict Surveillance at Exam Centres:
Every examination centre is monitored with strict vigilance, ensuring a disciplined and secure environment for all candidates.
  • Presence of Invigilators & Flying Squads:
BSEB deploys trained invigilators and flying squad teams to inspect centres regularly and prevent any unfair practices.
  • CCTV Cameras Installed in Classrooms:
All exam rooms are equipped with CCTV cameras, allowing real-time monitoring and recording to strengthen transparency.
  • Zero-Tolerance Policy for Malpractice:
Through these measures, BSEB maintains a fair, secure, and well-organized examination system for both Class 10 and Class 12 students.
