Part-A (General Knowledge)

This part has a

Total Marks of 30. Key topics include:

  • Current Affairs and History : Covering Freedom Fighters and Important Personalities regarding Bihar, and the Sports History of Bihar.

  • Olympic, Commonwealth, Asian Games & National Games : Includes Ancient/Modern Olympic Games, Commonwealth & Asian Games (Historical Background & Significance), Functions of IOC, Organization & Conduct of Games, and a brief introduction about winter and Para Olympic.

  • Sports Association/ Federation/Awards in India : This section covers governing bodies at National and International level, the Indian Olympic Association (Objective & Functions), Sports Schemes (Central and state), and National and State Sports awards.

Total Marks of 120 and covers a wide range of specialized sports training and science topics.

I. General/Scientific Principles, Conditioning and Methods of Sports Training

  • Scientific Sports Training : Concepts like Sports Training, Physical Fitness, health related fitness and performance related fitness, Aim, Characteristics, and Principles of Sports Training. It also includes Load and Overload, Super Compensation, Classification of Physical Exercise, Warm-up, Strength Training modalities, and Exercise prescription/Periodization of strength training.

  • Sports Performance : Nature and definition of sports performance, Model of sports Performance & Performance factor, Programme design for resistance training and aerobic endurance training, and Methods of fitness development (Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercises).

  • Motor abilities : Introduction, Classification, Structure of fitness/condition, and the Means and Methods of Development for Strength, Speed, Endurance, Flexibility, and Coordinative ability.

  • Cardio Vascular System and Exercise : Structure and function of heart, Cardiovascular control, Bioenergetics (aerobic/anaerobic metabolism, Lactic acid), and Physiology of training.

  • Respiratory System, High Altitude training and Exercise : Anatomy, Respiration at rest and during exercise, Ventilation and The Anaerobic Threshold, High altitude training (physiological changes, adaptations), and Body temperature regulation.

  • Energy Metabolism : ATP-CP, Anaerobic/Aerobic Metabolism, Lactic acid, Ingestion to energy metabolism (Carbohydrate, Protein and Fat), and Glycogen Loading.

  • Sports Biochemistry, Nutrition and Physical Performance : Aim and importance of Sports Biochemistry, Storage of fuels, Glycolysis, Biochemical basis of fatigue and recovery, Biochemical monitoring, Basic Components of food, Nutrients, Hydration, Weight management, and Pre/during/post competition diet.

III. Sports Anthropometry

Covers Nature and scope in sports, Body composition, Concept of physique (Somatotype), Human growth and development changes, Adolescent growth spurt, and Role of Anthropometry in Talent Identification.

IV. Sports Psychology

Includes Introduction, Scope, Effect of Personality,

Emotional Processes (Emotions, Stress, Fear, anxiety, Aggression, Arousal-Performance relationship) ,

Motivation (Meaning, Type, Techniques, Goal Setting) ,

Psychological Preparation (Pre Competition, Competition period, Optimizing Team Behaviour, Mental Toughness) , and

Sociological Issues (Social characteristics, Group and Team Work, Leadership, Flow State).

V. Sports Medicine

Topics include Meaning/definition, Basic Anatomy of Musculo skeletal system, Sports Emergencies and First Aid, Injuries in Sports (Management, Rehabilitation, Classification of Injuries, RICE Therapy), Risk factor and preventive measures, Overuse Injuries, and Recovery in Sports.

VI. Role of Bio Mechanics

Covers Kinesiology, Types of Plans and Axis, Major muscles, joint and their actions, Form of Motion (Linear and Angular motion, Newton's law), Type of Force, and Lever, Equilibrium and Stability.

VII. World/National Anti Doping agency and Anti Doping rule (2010)

Includes Introduction, Role of WADA and NADA in Fair Play, Doping (Definition, Classification, Hazards), Testing Procedure, and Prohibited Substance.
